You’ve got to wonder why a rabbit dropping is perched on a nettle leaf, two feet above the ground (which reminds me of the time, many years ago in darkest Worcestershire, I found a dead rabbit on top of a 5 foot hedge). I spent much of the walk pondering why the gall on the dog rose was such a bright orange – which reminded me of Tinbergen’s four questions (Why?: In terms of survival value; causation; development; evolutionary history). And then two treecreepers, a yellow-tail moth caterpillar and a heron snapped me out of it. Grey, windy, drizzly but not very wet. Ideal pondering weather, really!
