Fernworthy Forest
Two stags roaring at each other from opposite ends of the track with me in the middle (sitting on a stump off to one side). The distance made it a bit safer than it sounds but it was pretty impressive. Looking at the times on the photos, the second one was watching me for over 12 minutes.
…and toadstools, a devil’s coach horse, a red admiral, raspberry jam slime mould, dog vomit slime mould, a caterpillar and an odd leaf-like black fungus (black earth tongue).
As a post script – apart from not apologising for all the stag photos (it was immensely exciting – so no apology required), the other highlight was going back after 5 hours and finding my power bank which I’d dropped somewhere along the six miles of trails – almost at the end, as it turns out. I then found the black earth tongue which felt like a reward.
