Fernworthy Forest
“Foreshadowing” is a narrative device in which suggestions or warnings about events to come are dropped or planted. (College of Liberal Arts, Oregon State University).
I photographed the tree stump shortly before jumping gazelle-like across a small stream. I spend more of my time channeling my inner seven-year-old than you’d think – following streams, splashing through puddles, following walls. The toes of my left foot landed beautifully (gazelle-like etc.) on firm ground. Unfortunately, the ground beneath my heel sank without trace. Sadly, my calf muscle wasn’t equal to its new task. [I can’t help thinking that an authentic seven year old wouldn’t have had this problem.]
Physio-pedia.com suggests that the gastrocnemius muscle is a complex muscle that is fundamental for walking and posture (correctly, in my opinion).
[It turns out that a stick is hopeless for hobbling with and, slightly spooked by the thought that this might happen on the open moor, I’ve ordered some lightweight collapsible crutches which might be more effective – hopefully I’ll never find out.]
