Fernworthy Forest

I felt like I’d stepped into a Larson cartoon: What deer do when they don’t know you’re watching. The second photo is when they noticed me and got back into role. The stag with the velvet antlers was a little further along the track. The grasshopper was unusually clear and bright, ditto the foxglove. Hummingbird hawkmoths are always a treat.

In other news: a bunch of middle aged men wandering up the path in a tinder dry forest, towards the stone circle and possibly to the moor with rucksacs and 3 big bags of logs. “you surely aren’t going to have a fire” “just a little one” was how the conversation went. Let’s hope it is. I didn’t know if you’re supposed to report things like this on the non-emergency police web page – so I did anyway.

[PS I returned the next morning to see them driving off. I went to check that they’d put the fire out. They hadn’t, much to my lack of surprise. The police got back in touch. They don’t monitor messages out of hours.]
