Chagford – Fingle Bridge

Lots of nuthatches but everything else seemed to be keeping a low profile – it was surprisingly dark (a bit too dark to take closeups of insects) – perhaps not that surprising on an overcast day in the woods. The marbled white was about the only new insect I recognised – many of the others were a bit harder to pin down: a longhorned caddis (Mystacides azurea?) and a digger wasp (perhaps Cerceris rybyensis – the ornate bee fox?). And nuts and berries – we seem to be approaching autumn and the schools haven’t even broken up yet.
