Chagford – Fingle Bridge

Relatively dry on the way there but relatively torrential on the way back – hence a lack of photos. More calligraphy – seedheads this time. I’ve always thought that the marks in dead wood were made by woodboring beetles but in the photo it looks as though these might be made by lichen roots. Slight pause while I look up lichen ‘roots’ in my (very daunting) Frank Dobson Lichen book – I’m not sure what’s going on – the roots seem to be called rhizines and anchor the lichen to the substratum. Back on safer ground – the tree above the salmon leap looks like it’s gradually falling over.
