Fernworthy
Grasses, docks, burdock and something with very picturesque buds. Lots of photos of the white-banded hoverfly (Volucella pellucens – “very fond of bramble blossoms” apparently) because it appealed to me. Looking online it seems to be called the pellucid fly except by one person who calls it the pied plumehorn and presumably hopes it catches on. A four-spotted chaser, a grasshopper, a heron and more hoverflies. I don’t know what possessed me to try to take photos of the swallows kissing the water and making ripple patterns in the middle of the reservoir – it’s a fool’s game, nothing but a fool’s game etc. – glad I did though – joyful.
