Devonport Leat – Crazy Well Pool – Nun’s Cross – Down Tor – Cuckoo Rock – Leather Tor

Bright sunshine and a fierce wind – one of those days when birds are blown past rather than flying. Lots of hut circles, leat engineering and crosses to admire. I can’t work out how I managed to miss the stone row last time I was here – I think I just looked at the taller stones at the end. The short cut I’ve used before across the valley and a stream called ‘Newlycombe Lake’ looked incredibly inviting but it’s been so wet and I couldn’t help feeling ‘Lake’ was a clue. A small group of golden plovers rounded things off well – a bonus for my windswept detour when I incompetently missed the car park.
