Too wet for the shrew. I wasn’t expecting spiders to be active. The stumps seemed much more lichen-encrusted than other stumps – I think the way through the woods (we called them ‘rides’ in Leicestershire – more than a path, less than a road) was higher and a lot less disturbed.
