Rushford Mill – Fingle Woods

A bit icy (too icy to drive up to Scorhill as I discoved – so I relocated) and a bit foggy. A day of lichens, bark, liverworts (just to ring the changes), buds and bracket fungi. A female great spotted woodpecker, a tree creeper (best one yet), a dipper and a goosander mid-scratch. I finally clambered down to see what the big white lump was (a fungus) and I followed a wall back along the top of the gorge and found a few huge and extraordinary ancient trees deep in the deer park.
