Fernworthy
A bit too dull and breezy to take photos of catkins – but they’ve arrived. The hawthorn fly is a looker. The rove beetle isn’t so much much of a looker and doesn’t seem to have a common name – even it’s Latin name just means Philonthos’s relative. However, I like rove beetles. Tachina ursina is a parasitoid fly and was BBC Wildlife’s fly of the month “the larvae feed on the body tissues of immature or adult invertebrates” – but no-one knows which species they parasitise.
