All unfurling leaves are a joy – but sycamore leaves are a particular joy – power, waxy delicacy, mechanically intricate. Later on in the season, they’re large, dull and thuggish – perhaps just a week later. The second hawthorn berry is a reminder to find it again and make a better job of it.
