Fernworthy

Lichens, faces in the bark and hair ice. All very sunny, cold, still and deserted. The net-like Usnea caught my eye today. Also, dead seedheads and leaves. I think the strange icy lump on the branch is a frozen jelly ear fungus. Buds are presumably about to start springing into life although some look distinctly dead. It turns out that hair ice was studied by the meteorologist Alfred Wegener of continental drift fame.
