Rushford Mill – Whiddon Woods

Bluebells and the flower meadows are just beginning to get going. On the way back, I wandered along what I think are probably old tracks (or possibly ditches) which are now only used by the deer. I saw four or five but they remained hidden in the birches. I fruitlessly watched a hole in a tree for half an hour last time I was here. This time, after only a minute, a greater spotted woodpecker landed and another one emerged which was exciting. The green veined white, the blackbird, and the fly with a harvestman creeping up on it (or possibly just sharing a leaf) were today’s other highlights. I liked the bumblebee on the bilberry too.
[and that’s definitely a royal oak]
