Astonishing numbers of peacock butterflies in the flower meadows. …and red admirals, holly blues and assorted dragonflies. Also, a tortoiseshell – there don’t seem to be many in Devon. I’ve also discovered the app ‘Merlin’ (long after everyone else) so the wolf patiently waits as Merlin listens to birdsong and identifies all sorts of exciting things that I haven’t seen – spotted flycatchers, goldcrests and red crossbills, for example.
